Great for adding details/ background texture. A fave of mine for an unusual 'shading' sugar skull cheek hollows and foreheads, etc
 
For a really fab effect sponge a bright ombre base. Then place the stencil on top and sponge a darker shade to pop out bright rainbow webs.
Or, ombre over the stencil on a white base.
